The move surprised fans, especially since the project had already finished principal photography and was in the midst of post-production. In a video recently posted to their Instagram accounts, Falah and Al Araby shed more light on the circumstances surrounding the cancellation, including their efforts to try and record some footage on their phones as a backup.
“I was in Tetouan visiting the graves of my grandfather and grandmother,” Falah explained. “When I was leaving, I picked up my phone and saw a lot of messages. I got a call and they said”bat girl It was completed.'”
“I was in Tangiers, in a hotel, on my honeymoon with my wife,” Elaraby echoed. “All of a sudden I got a phone call. Meanwhile, I got all these messages and they said they were going to kill the movie. When I heard that, I was shocked, because I didn’t even realize that possibility. It was like we were making a movie date there. I called editor Martin Walsh right away and said” Yo, you should back up this sh-t. Back it up! Copy the movie!”
Then Adel called me and said: Shoot your phone! “I went to the server, and everything was blocked.”
“I apologise, that’s not the right thing to do,” Al Arabi admitted. “But I was freaked out, you know. It’s not a good idea to hack. It was just ‘What are you doing?'” To see that the movie was gone and that we either didn’t have any access to the footage or couldn’t see it for ourselves again, that was pretty rough.”
The duo also offered some insight into the state of the movie itself, with the project reportedly being together enough to be in the recent “funeral shows” of the cast and crew, but there’s still a lot that needs to be done for the movie to be truly complete.
Elaraby revealed the movie, “The movie is not finished.” “There was still a long way to go. There was a lot of work to be done… We were just starting to get somewhere in post-production.”
“There were no visual effects, there were missing scenes,” Falah added. “We were missing the re-searches.”
