Twitter adds a new Spaces feature

Twitter is developing its Spaces tab with another new type of media for users to interact with: podcasts. The social platform this week announced its plans to integrate podcasts into Spaces, a feature that allows listeners to tune into conversations between hosts and other speakers geared toward specific topics. These added podcasts are part of a larger Spaces test with other features meant to make it easier for people to share the audio content they’re looking for.

Since Spaces is all about listening to other people talk about topics, it makes sense that podcasts would be incorporated into these spaces as well. Twitter said in a blog post linked to this announcement that the feature will roll out in the app starting August 25 “for a globally English-speaking audience on iOS and Android.” Some of the people who responded to the tweet about the update said they didn’t see the Spaces design after it was redesigned, so if you haven’t, look to roll it out soon.

“Starting Thursday, August 25, we’re incorporating Twitter podcasts as part of our newly redesigned Spaces tab,” Tweet said. “We know that some discussions need more than 280 characters, and bringing people closer to the ideas, content, and creators they know and love is key to Twitter no matter where the conversations are taking place.”

Twitter said users will find these podcasts in dedicated hubs within the Spaces tab, which are hubs that include popular podcasts as well as Live or recorded Spaces conversations. These hubs will be categorized according to different interests and influenced by what users interact with on Twitter in general, so if you spend time interacting with any one platform or outlet, Twitter says you’ll likely see a related podcast suggested in the Spaces tab.

“This redesign introduces custom hubs that bring audio content together by specific topics such as news, music, sports, and more,” Twitter said. “Twitter listeners will now be able to easily access a more personalized selection of live and recorded spaces to discuss the topics most relevant to them.”

Look for podcasts that will be in the Spaces tab starting Thursday, and keep an eye on them to be available in the future if you don’t see them yet.
