NBC is considering cutting back on prime-time programming. This news comes from The Wall Street Journal They also discussed the “declining” interest in broadcast television in general. NBC has explored stopping programming at 10 p.m. and allowing local affiliates to program their channels. This would leave things for individual outlets an hour earlier than usual. Interestingly, this move has not yet been discussed with its board of directors. The late night programming of the network consists mostly of various programs such as Jimmy Fallon Tonight Show. But they can slide up in view of the move. Fans of the show in that time period have nothing to worry about this year. Reports indicate that the exchange won’t happen until the fall of 2023. However, there are some significant changes on the way for TV broadcasts in the near future.
For a long time, NBC, ABC, and CBS were able to bank on three hours of late programming. But as TV tastes changed, they had to look at other approaches. The public has started consuming things online in greater numbers over the past half decade. All of these broadcasting giants have taken to boosting their streaming shows. There’s Disney+, Hulu, Peacock, and Paramount+. If they adjust their late bids, it could save millions. Some of this actually started with a noticeable tendency toward unrecorded live shows like The Voice and America’s Got Talent.
“We are always looking at strategies to ensure our broadcast business remains as robust as possible,” a company spokesperson said in a statement. “As a company, our advantage lies in our ability to provide audiences with the content they love via broadcast, cable and live.”
There is a lot of respect among the group of late night show hosts. ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel got some praise for Fallon’s contributions to the model back in 2014. However, he told Esquire that he wishes they didn’t share a name.
“My only complaint about Jimmy Fallon is the first name: Jimmy,” Kimmel joked. “People confuse us all the time. Nobody remembers who Jimmy is. Or think I’m him, which can make you feel like you should be him. In fact, he says the same thing happens to him.”
“He’s like an athlete on the outside,” Kimmel added when asked about his fellow host. “He can jump high, act, sing. He’s a real performer. I’m a broadcaster. That’s how I came to this. Not a stand-up, not an actor, not a commentator. An announcer.”
