The Last of Us: Release Date Part 1

If the numerous ads and trailers haven’t been dug into the house yet, The Last of Us: Part 1 will be released on September 2, 2022. Grab your diary and take a note. And if you plan to pull a patient from work or school, start laying the foundation now with headache/backache/toe ache comments. Preparation is the key.

What time does The Last of Us: Part 1 open?

After that, what time can you play? What time do you open the digital version? If you have pre-ordered a physical copy of the game, you will be able to start playing once you have removed the cellophane wrapping from the game box and installed the game on your console. If you’re lucky, they may be delivered a day or two early in the post.

If you decide to go all-digital gaming, you’ll have to wait for Sony to open the game on their end. You can already download the game to your console ahead of time, but you won’t be able to play until the game is officially opened.

These are the opening times for The Last of Us: Part 1, according to the official PlayStation Store:

  • UK: 12am GMT (midnight)
  • Mainland Europe: 1 a.m. CET
  • North America: 11pm CST

How much hard disk space will it take?

Another essential piece of information to know is how much hard drive space The Last of Us: Part 1 will need on your PS5. Given that the stock SSD inside the PS5 can fill up pretty quickly with a few bloated games, it might be an idea to free up some space. The Last of Us: Part 1 will occupy 68GB of space on PS5, although this does not represent any possible future updates that Naughty Dog may release. If there are updates, they are not likely to be outrageous if it is just the normal run of bug fixes and tweaks.

If you’ve pre-ordered the digital edition of The Last of Us: Part 1, you can go ahead and actually download the game because the pre-download is straightforward. You can’t play, but you can watch the ticking clock countdown towards its impending release.

Unfortunately, preloading is the only benefit you will get when you pre-order the game. If you want some extra in-game rewards, you’ll need to purchase the more expensive Digital Deluxe Edition. Here’s what you get in the Digital Deluxe Edition:

  • 2 skill upgrades (early unlock)
  • Pistol / Rifle Upgrade (Early Unlock)
  • Exploding Arrows (Open Early)
  • Dither Punk filter (early unlock)
  • Speedrun mode (early unlock)
  • Six weapon skins (unlock early)

How much will it cost?

pricing. The big question when The Last of Us: Part 1 was announced was “What does it cost?” Unfortunately, there is no upgrade path from previous versions of the game, which makes sense because it’s not a port, it’s a reproduction. It is basically a new game built with the latest iteration of the Naughty Dog game engine. So, what does it cost? show yourself…

The standard version of the game will cost £69.99 / $69.99 / €79.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition costs £79.99 / $79.99 / €89.99. These are the prices listed on the official PlayStation Store pages, although if you’re shopping for the actual version you’re bound to find some retailers with slightly lower prices or promotions.

When will reviews be available?

Considering the cost, you might wait for some reviews before splashing out on the money, so when will the review ban on The Last of Us: Part 1 be lifted? You’ll be able to read and see impressions and reviews (including ours) from August 31. The timing of the ban is as follows:

  • UK: 4pm GMT
  • Mainland Europe: 5 PM CET
  • North America: 10 a.m. CST

The Last of Us: Part 1 is a complete rebuilding of the Naughty Dog saga, and while it’s a faithful remake with lots of gameplay and graphics improvements, it’s not the complete package. Sadly, the surprisingly good multiplayer mode isn’t porting to PS5. However, you can still get your fix with the PS4 re-release, The Last of Us Remastered. The multiplayer still works on PS4 (playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility) and still has a decent player base.

What you’ll get is Left Behind DLC, a short but sweet chapter that illustrates some of Ellie’s backstory in a touching story set before the game’s main events.

And that’s all you need to know about The Last of Us: Part 1. Now all you have to do is wait. see you on the other side, survivor.
