Danica McKellar’s career has gone through many changes since she scored her breakthrough role as Winnie Cooper years of wonder. While viewers knew her for her Hallmark directing, there was a period when McKellar put aside her acting career to pursue other interests outside of Hollywood. Years after her disappearance from television, the former Hallmark star gave a thoughtful answer after her son asked her why she took so long from acting.
The marvel years The alum opened up about why she took a break from acting after starring in an ABC song. As a source for her teen crushes in the ’80s and ’90s, Danica McKellar left many hearts wondering what happened to her before her re-emergence in the 2000s. Of course, only her son Draco could get a direct answer from her when he interviewed his mother ET. MacKeller revealed how her love of education (especially mathematics) led to her pursuit of a college degree for a few years.
I went to UCLA, but when I got to school, everywhere I went, people all over campus were shouting across campus, you know, “Hey Winnie!” [or] “Hi, I loved you at The Wonder Years!” I couldn’t get away from him. So I needed to know how far I did outside of Winnie Cooper, the math was tough and I did really well at it. And I love the feeling that my value, the important things, have nothing to do with the way I look or with TV.
Getting herself out of the Hollywood rat race was probably the best decision she could make for herself. Having been on TV since she was young, Danica McKellar felt she had no identity outside of being Winnie from years of wonder. Her whole being was distorted into the belief that her value was nothing more than her appearance and attractiveness to a television audience. The Winnie Cooper connection seems to be hurting McKellar’s sense of self as a teenage girl growing up on TV.
For her, math was her way of letting other UCSD students (and viewers) know that she was more than just Winnie Cooper. During her time at school, she did just that. Her work in mathematics led to Danica McKellar earning a place in the sciences with the Chase-McKellar-Win Theory after she co-authored a paper alongside UCLA professor Lincoln Chase and fellow student Brandi Wynn. After graduating from college, the GAC Family star penned 11 bestselling math books geared toward teens.
Of course, McKellar hasn’t given up acting because she has starred in many TV shows and movies, including Hallmark projects. She caused a stir last year for leaving the network to rival GAC family with her first project Winter Palace It aired earlier this year. Outside of her job with her new home on the net, Danica McKellar has seen mixed results from celebrating her father’s 72nd birthday to opening up about an unexpected death in her family. But the 47-year-old actress seems to have kept things going despite life’s hardships.
Right now, McKellar Network’s new main GAC family is gearing up for Thanksgiving and Christmas programming.
