Houston, Texas (KTRK) – A man was shot dead while sitting in a parked car outside an apartment at 9603 Homestead near Tidwell.
Houston police said two men got out of a black Infiniti driving the parking lot shortly after 6 p.m. Sunday, got into the victim’s brown Tahoe, and opened fire.
Witnesses told police that the suspects then returned to the car and sped off.
Investigators said the victim was found dead inside Tahoe, with multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.
The family at the scene identified the victim as David Johnson.
Police said Johnson did not live in the apartment complex.
“He is a godly man. A God-fearing man. He is a wonderful person,” said Eric Marks, Johnson’s cousin. “He did what he could for everyone around him. This was just a tragedy.”
“He took care of his own business. He was a good person,” said one family member, Kenesha Richard. “He’s trying to help anyone who gets in his way. He didn’t deserve any of this at all.”
Police were looking for surveillance video in the area. They said the motive for the shooting was unknown.
Investigators and family members asked anyone with information about what happened to contact law enforcement.
