The Federal High Court in Abuja has again refused to grant bail to DCP Abba Kyari, the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police.

This was stated in the court’s decision issued on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 by Judge Emeka Nuit

He said the justifications given for the bail application were covered in the previous application, which was rejected.

The court then set an appeal for the trial on October 19, 20 and 21.

On March 7, 2022, Kyari was indicted along with members of the Police Intelligence Response Team Sunday J. Obia, Bawa James, Simon Ajirigba and John Nohu.

The others are Chibona Patrick Omaybe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezinoan – two alleged drug traffickers who were arrested at Akano Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.

In his decision on the bail application, Judge Emeka Nuet said the petitioners did not provide sufficient information and evidence to support the admission of the new application.

For an urgent hearing, Judge Inuit reaffirmed his earlier decision effective March 28, 2022.

In the judge’s opinion, Kiari and his co-applicants did not demonstrate that exceptional circumstances existed that would justify the granting of bail.

This is the second time that the court has rejected the requests of Kyari and others to be released on bail; The first time was in April of this year.

The suspects will remain behind bars at Kogi Correctional Center in Abuja until their trial begins in October.
