With the countdown to iPhone 14 launch day, there are still rumors to check, like a new one rolling out a major upgrade to the iPhone 14 Pro’s ultrawide camera.
analyst Ming Chi Kuo (Opens in a new tab) Apple expected to upgrade the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max’s ultra-wide camera module with a new voice coil engine (which drives the camera’s autofocus) and most importantly a larger sensor with larger pixels. The pixel size on this updated sensor is supposed to be 1.4μm, which is a nice boost from the 1.0μm pixels of the iPhone 13 Pro.
The benefit of larger pixels is that they are better at picking up light, making the sensor more effective when things get dark. Since Apple’s event is called “Far Out” and seems to have a space theme, we may see Apple touting the new camera’s ability to take astronomical photos and great night shots.
This isn’t the only big camera upgrade being rumored for the iPhone 14 Pro. The main camera seems to get a high resolution from 12MP to 48MP, while there may be a larger aperture selfie camera with autofocus as well. In addition to the cameras, there’s also an always-on display, a new top-notch design, and even satellite connectivity to look forward to, says the rumor mill.
The unfortunate part of making these upgrades is that these components cost more, according to Ku. And it looks like Apple may pass this extra cost on to iPhone buyers, as the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max both tend to have a $100 price increase over their iPhone 13 counterparts.
As for the standard iPhone 14, not much is rumored to change compared to the iPhone 13 series. It might be him and the new iPhone 14 Max model that is rumored to get a new selfie camera, but other than that, nothing else seems to be improving. That might include the chipset, which would set the iPhone and iPhone Pro models apart more than ever.
Apple’s September event has been announced on September 7th, which could mean it’s just over a week until we see Apple’s latest iPhones. Stay up-to-date with all the rumors and news ahead of time with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro hubs.
