Labor presidential candidate Peter Obe has challenged the federal government to publicize the terror financiers and high-profile individuals allegedly involved in the theft of crude oil in the country, according to a report in the Punch newspaper.

The former Anambra state governor on Wednesday posted a tweet on his verified Twitter page expressing his dismay at news reports linking high-status Nigerians to the theft of crude oil.

Noting that several prominent Nigerians had at one time been similarly associated with the financing of terrorism, he wondered when the government would summon the political will to publicly name these people.

Therefore, the Anambra-born politician tasked the government to rise to the occasion and do the job by publicly naming these criminal elements because, according to him, “in the national interest, there should be no sacred cows.”

It is important to remember that on February 3, 2022, the Federal Government said that the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) had identified 96 financiers of terrorism as well as 424 partners and supporters of the financiers. However, the government failed to name the names.
