Amazon bans book by Dr. Stone Science Consultants

Dr. is considered Stone is a household name to Shonen Jump fans, and her love of all things science helped fans embrace their inner academics upon its release. From geology to plant sciences and beyond, the franchise deals with all kinds of real-world science through a fictional lens. Of course, many of its details came courtesy of the many consultants known in Japan for their love of learning. But now, it appears that two books from the collection have been pulled from Amazon.

according to Anime News NetworkAmazon Japan has removed two books from its Impossible Science reality series. For those who don’t know, these folk books were coined by Yakuri Kyoshitsu which is a pseudonym used by a group of scholars who advised Dr. Stone. They started work on the Shueisha series starting with volume 10 and continued from there.

Of course, the advisory group saw a surge in popularity from the gig, and its impossible science fiction continued to grow. However, two of them have now been pulled from Amazon Japan, and publisher Sansai Books says the online seller has pulled the two books because they were deemed “harmful to young people”. This decree was issued based on laws from Tottori Prefecture, so Amazon Japan chose to completely delete both books to prevent them from being illegally handed over to Tottori.

Amazon Japan said that non-fiction books could be crossed off its list of more than 18 titles, but Sansai Books has balked at the idea that they are harmful to children. As such, the books in question are not available on Amazon Japan, and Sansai Books has yet to receive a clear account from Tottori as to why these books are “harmful” to children. The advisory group’s books can be purchased directly from Sansai Books, but the publisher admits that 90% of its sales come from Amazon. And with no sign of reconciliation in sight, it looks like the online giant won’t be restocking books for quite some time.
