Governor Nyesom Wike responded to recent statements made by National PDP Chairman Iyorchia Ayu regarding calls for his resignation. I remember Ayo in an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday said that those who called for his resignation were children who did not know how he and other PDP leaders had established the party.

Vanguard reported that Wake and his allies demanded that Ayew resign and that the PDP national presidency move south after Atiku Abubakar emerged as the party’s presidential candidate. The argument of Wike and his allies is that the national president and the party’s presidential candidate should not come from a particular region of the country, and since both Ayu and Atiku are from the North, Ayu should step aside from the South.

In response to Ayew’s statement, Wake said he and Governor Samuel Ortum, Governor Sei Makinde and others whom Ayew referred to as “children” were the ones who made it possible for him to become the PDP president. It was alleged that Ayu did not want to resign due to the presence of 14 billion naira in the PDP account which was made from selling models during the party primaries.
