Apple Watch 8 battery life has the opportunity to change what users know about the Apple Watch experience. Likewise, it cannot change anything.
Battery life is 18 hours, or “all day” is as synonymous with the Apple Watch as the circular display. Charging your Apple Watch daily is a familiar task for anyone with a smartwatch, especially if you use it to track activity and sleep. That’s why we’ve stopped expecting improvements in battery life over the past few years.
But some rumors about the battery life of the Apple Watch 8 say that this year will be different. In several Apple Watch 8 reports, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has listed a “low power mode” as an alleged upgrade to this year’s Apple smartwatch.
This could mean that the Apple Watch 8 can better manage battery life, offering a setting that disables power-draining programs until you reach the charger. We think it will look like Low Power Mode on iPhone and iPad.
What’s not clear is whether certain devices in the Apple Watch 8 support Low Power Mode, or whether it will be a watchOS 9 feature that came with older watchOS 9 supported devices. If it only works with Apple’s latest smartwatch, it will be Low Power Mode is a big difference between Apple Watch 8 vs Apple Watch 7.
Now, we doubt the Apple Watch 8’s battery will last anything longer than two days, but 36 hours would be an exciting threshold.
Apple Watch 8 Pro battery life
Meanwhile, the Apple Watch 8 Pro battery life could provide further upgrades. Rumor has it that Apple is planning to release a more premium version of its smartwatch, with a major difference between the Apple Watch 8 versus the Apple Watch 8 Pro.
The Apple Watch 8 pro’s larger design may translate to longer battery life. If a smartwatch offers a significant improvement in battery life, it may be the best Apple Watch for continuous GPS use while doing outdoor sports. The watch is said to be offered as a durable watch, or as a challenge to Garmin watches and even the new Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
No rumors have given a true estimate of Apple Watch 8 Pro battery life. Ideally, we want an Apple Watch that lasts two full days, but any improvement over the Apple Watch 8 would be welcome. It would also help justify Apple Watch 8 pricing rumors that the Pro model could cost around $999.
Apple Watch 8 battery life will be revealed at Apple event on September 7. Keep it locked to Tom’s guide to cover new Apple devices, including the Apple Watch 8, iPhone 14, and AirPods Pro 2.
