In an interview with Arise Online News, Delta State Information Commissioner Charles Anyago said Okwa’s advice to Peter Obi that he should not use Nigerian churches to gain power is with due respect to Peter Obi’s credibility.

Charles Anyago was asked to give his opinion on what Governor Ifeneo Okoa said of Labor’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, that he should stop going to churches to gain power.

Aniagwu begins by saying that Okowa and Peter Obi are friends and that they both respect each other relentlessly. His reaction was that if he wanted to remove the sentiment, he said that what Oqua had said was not just for Peter Obi. He said there are certain things that we should not continue to stress. One of the challenges we face as a country, he said, is our inability to manage our diversity.

He pointed out that the pillars of our diversity are our religion, our ethnic group and our political division. He said whether it is the church or the mosque, and someone decides to use it to his advantage because he thinks he can use his religion, that person will widen this chasm for another individual to take advantage of it. This is a threat to our dear unity.

He said that Peter Obi could go to church if invited and that churches could pray for a man they believed had what it takes to save. But when there is a complete move into the political arena, he said, it means that the person has lost his calling.

Then Aniagwu remarked that ” The advice given by Ocua is with due respect to Peter Obi’s credibility and with full respect for the love and friendship they share.”
