Ajax Manager Confirms Edson Alvarez Wanted To Join Chelsea!

Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder has handed over midfielder Edson Alvarez, who was expected to join Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window.

The Blues rejected a €50m bid for Alvarez on the final day of the English transfer window – the Dutch window had recently closed – and the midfielder wasn’t even planning his side trying to make a move.

In the long term, Ajax would not sell Alvarez and Schreuder tried to move forward by starting Mexico on the world stage in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Cambuur, before conceding that Alvarez would leave.

“Chelsea contacted Edson Alvarez on the last day and Alvarez requested the move,” ESPN reported. “He was feeling really bad for a day, yesterday at this point he said to me: ‘Coach, I’m here and from now on I’m going to give 100%.’

In addition, he told the club press: “We discussed it with Edson. It’s when things happen on the last day that it’s reasonable in his mind to redirect it, so we agree that he won’t plan with us.

“Edson showed up on Friday and is ready to play. If you see what happened and how he showed himself in preparation for Friday, he set himself up very well. His message is that he is incredibly anxious to continue playing for Ajax.”

With Alvarez off the market, Chelsea have focused on Denis Zakaria, agreeing to bring the midfielder on a season-long loan from Juventus, who have compounded their decision to buy.
