Man was driving wrong way before crashing into Komchop on Westheimer, witnesses say!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Police said a driver taking the wrong route was barely missing customers when he crashed into a restaurant in western Harris County.

The accident happened just after 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday at 14,000 blocks of Westheimer Road in Komchop – a restaurant in West Africa.

The owner said that at least a dozen customers were eating inside the restaurant when the accident occurred.

Witnesses told ABC13 they saw the driver going the wrong way in Westheimer – traveling west in the eastern lanes – when he lost control of his vehicle.

Witnesses said that’s when the car veered off the road, crashed into a slope, took off in midair, snapped a sign, and then crashed into the restaurant’s office area.

A video clip of the scene shows the car crashing into the side of the restaurant surrounded by debris.

Witness Jeremiah Okochaba said, “Do you see how close the chair is? People were sitting there. If it was a second away, it would have been a disaster.” “People were going to lose their lives. He was going to lose his life, and I don’t know why people would risk this.”

The accident caused the glass to fall off, injuring a customer.

Houston police said the driver was trapped inside the car and had to be rescued. He was the only one in the car at the time of the accident.

Police said the driver and the injured customer were taken to hospital in stable condition.

The car missed the restaurant section of the company where customers were sitting only a few feet away.

“Thank God, there are customers inside. He ran into the office. If he had hit the other side, which is the left side, people would have died on the floor by now,” said restaurant owner Kehinde Sole. “I am only thankful to God that it is just an office.”

The repairs required in the restaurant are extensive and will likely cost thousands.

Police said the cause of the accident was still under investigation.
