Bernard Shaw, CNN’s first chief anchor, dies at 82!

Shaw’s family announced in a statement Thursday that former CNN anchor Bernard Shaw died on Wednesday of pneumonia unrelated to Covid-19. Shaw was 82 years old.

Shaw was CNN’s first major anchor when the network launched on June 1, 1980, and has been with the network for more than 20 years.

His family said Shaw’s funeral services would be closed to family members and invited guests only, with a public memorial service planned for later.

“In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Bernard Shaw Scholarship Fund at the University of Chicago. The Shaw family is requesting complete privacy at this time,” the family said in its statement.
