Disney+ brings ‘Pinocchio’ to life thanks to work of young actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth!

In the final take on the classic story “Pinocchio,” we see Tom Hanks as Geppetto, hear Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Cricket, and as the voice of the title role…young actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth. Or as Hanks called him on set, “Ben Uchio.”

Ainsworth is happy to help bring a new story into the familiar story.

“I think it’s faithful to the ’40s version, but it also has, like, some new stuff, exciting stuff and some new songs, maybe new songs, maybe some new characters,” Ainsworth said. “I don’t want to spoil anything but I’m telling you there are some great new features.”

This “Pinocchio” is directed by Robert Zemeckis, the director of the Oscar-winning “Forrest Gump.” His young star spent time in a recording booth, but he was also on set, describing his experience as “the best of both worlds.” And it gave the 13-year-old an opportunity to learn a lot about filmmaking.

“Oh yeah, especially from Robert Zemeckis,” Ainsworth said. “Like, things like how CGI and live action, visual effects and special effects all go together and come together for this. It was great learning that kind of thing.”

Ainsworth is excited to see “Pinocchio” debut at Disney+ on September 8, which is Disney+ Day.

“I think it’s great to be a part of it,” Ainsworth said. “It’s great to be on Disney+ because I feel like more families will be able to watch it all over the world, and people who aren’t ready to go back to the movies can still see it with their families and it’s easily accessible.”

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Disney+ and this ABC station.
