Houston METRO: HOV/HOT lanes in Houston to open 7 days a week permanently starting Sept. 10!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Driving around the Houston area on weekends and holidays has become more comfortable, according to a release from METRO.

Starting Saturday, September 10, METRO’s HOV and HOT Express Lanes will permanently remain open seven days a week.

As part of H-GAC’s Commute Solutions, METRO said it will also highlight its RideMETRO app as a tool for public transportation. The company said in a statement that it will provide updates to the METRONext plan, which is moving forward with additional travel options to help ease traffic congestion and improve air quality.

This comes after a successful test run from July 2 to September 5. It was part of a regional pilot mobility program.

Toll requirements depend on the highway, time of day, and total number of people in your vehicle.

METRO has also provided below some important laws to know from these passages:

  • Car rides, vanpools and motorcyclists are free.
  • Solo drivers have the option to pay a fee to use the routes.
  • Trailer towing is prohibited.
  • No trucks larger than two axles or with a gross weight of more than one ton or more.
  • Bicycles are prohibited (motorcycles are allowed).
