After a little extra delay, Jaume Collet-Serra’s black Adam Almost here, and as we can see in the latest trailer for the movie, it’s not all just the Dwayne Johnson Show. This new spot spotlights directly on the first big screen release of the Justice League, and while doing so, it offers a first look at the demonic villain Sabbac.
tracking Black Adam preview shown at San Diego Comic-Con, this new venue begins by focusing on the titular character of Dwayne Johnson – who talks about how he sacrificed his son for him – but then the perspective definitely shifts to Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan), and Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell) ) and Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo). Amanda Waller Viola Davis returns after her supporting role in James Gunn’s suicide squad Recruitment last year against the threat posed by “Black Adam,” and the Justice Society is preparing for the task.
This will be the first time the Justice Society has appeared on the big screen, and the delay is somewhat ironic given that they were the first superhero team assembled in the comics. We’ve taken a nice long look at each of their power-ups in this preview, with Hawkman wielding his wand, Dr. Fate showing off some magical skills, and the Cyclone running around a storm being spotlighted. The members’ one-to-one relationships with Black Adam are interesting, as they certainly seem to be more focused on recruiting him to the side of good rather than defeating and subjugating him – but we’ll go ahead and guess they won’t have the same kind back and forth with Sabbac.
Played by Marwan Kanzari, Sabbac is the villain dating back to Captain Marvel Jr. Comics from the 1940s, although the character has been updated by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank during DC’s reboot of the new 52. He is often shown as an ally of Black Adam, so it will be interesting to see what kind of treatment he receives in the story.
