Delhi HC takes suo motu cognizance of two deaths inside Mundka sewer!

New Delhi, September 12 (IANS) The Delhi High Court on Monday took suo motu a media report that two persons died after inhaling noxious fumes in sewage while cleaning a canal in Mundka area. Public equity last week.

A division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad, issuing a notice on the matter, sought the response of the regional government’s chief secretary, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the Delhi Jal Board.

Advocate General Rajshekhar Rao has been appointed amicus curiae in this case to assist the court.

According to reports, on September 9, two persons — Rohit Chandiliya (32) and Ashok Kumar (30) — died after inhaling poisonous gases in the sewers in West Delhi’s Mundka area.

Chandiliya, a Delhi Development Authority sweeper, was cleaning a canal to fix the barricade but was knocked unconscious after inhaling the noxious gases inside. A nearby security guard, Kumar, entered the pit to rescue him. In any case, she additionally felt her eyes go dark and trapped inside.

However, with the help of the police and firefighters who came to the scene later, they were taken out of the canal and taken to the emergency medical clinic, where experts determined that both of them were dead.
