Thunderbolts Cast reveals if they’re bad guys in the MCU

Marvel Lightning She revealed her huge cast of characters during D23 Expo 2022. The lineup includes Sebastian Stan (Bucky/Winter Soldier), Florence Bowie (Yelena Belova/Black Widow II), Wyatt Russell (John Walker/US Agent), Hannah John Kamen (Ava). / Ghost), David Harbor (Red Guardian), Olga Kurylenko (Task Manager), and Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Valentina Allegra de Fontaine). This is an impressive mix of shady secret agents, failed experiments with super soldiers, and/or outright criminals. So is this the kind of team we get with this Lightning Movie?

In the comics, the Thunderbolts started out as a group of supervillains trying to trick the audience by posing as a new team of superheroes. The concept has evolved over the years into a government-mandated team of secret agents and/or forced assignments, but many fans hoped the original premise of villains posing as heroes would be incorporated into the MCU Thunderbolts.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus only echoed Kevin Feige when she called the Thunderbolts a “rag-tag” team of people (a little bit of both). Sebastian Stan is more than just a Marvel pro at this point; Not only did he answer the question, but he also rotated the question “Are lightning bolts heroes or villains?” On being the full thematic hook for the movie:

“Well again, that’s probably what the movie is going to answer, right?” Stan explained to Extra TV. “It’s always interesting when you, as a member of the audience, have to decide whether we’re the villains or the heroes. But I think that’s what convinces us of the movie: It’s just as unconventional as this. So it starts a little bit like ‘Who’s the hero really or?'” opponent, “I think.”

At that point, Dreyfus (who will play Wrangler and/or liaison Val in Thunderbolts) reminds Sebastian Stan not to say too much, lest Marvel Studios’ snipers take him down.

Taking the little we’ve got and working with it: the mix of characters in Lightning Especially exciting because we won’t be sure who’s playing which side, or what other organizations or agendas different team members can serve. A definite spy feature for this version of Thunderbolts isn’t necessarily the same as the comics — backstabbing, betrayal, and double-agent flips are almost mandatory. The real question may not be whether the team is good or bad, but what kind of team will be there even by the time the credits are handed out.

Lightning It will be released in theaters on July 26, 2024.
