If the latest trailer for God of War Ragnarok Is any indication, looks like the events of 2007 God of War 2 It will be of great interest for the next part of the series. For the most part, since it was first announced in 2020, PlayStation has tried to retain a lot of the story God of War Ragnarok under the coils. And while we have a general idea of where the new PS5 and PS4 sequel will go, it certainly looks like Kratos’ experiences from God of War 2 You will play a major role in themes Ragnarok.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the trailer comes with the brief dynamic that emerges between Kratos and Atreus. At the end of 2018 God of WarKratos saw a fresco on a wall in Jötunheim that predicted his eventual death. This same mural happens to foretell all the events that took place inside God of War, indicating that Kratos’ death is something that seems likely to happen. This inconvenience of Kratos’ possible death is clearly something that could upset Atreus, as the new trailer for Ragnarok It made him assert that Kratos himself needed protection. Kratos ends up responding with the trailer’s best line by simply saying, “Death can spare me when it wins me.”
Far from just saluting the idea of his death in such a bad way, Kratos also continues to emphasize (apparently) Atreus later in the trailer that what was predicted is not guaranteed to pass. “Destiny only needs you if you let it go,” he says. “Do what is necessary. Not because it is written. We will make our own destiny.”
What makes all of these lines of Kratos so great is that the original entries in the God of War series were already very skewed towards the idea that Kratos is someone who makes his own destiny. God of War 2 Perhaps the most notable example of this is because that game begins when he is literally killed by Zeus. After entering the depths of the underworld, Kratos continues to defy the Sisters of Destiny, step back in time, and undo his own death. Kratos also has other brushes with death in the original God of War And the God of War 3but God of War 2 Which is really centered around this central theme of his unsettled destiny.
To hear that Kratos version in God of War Ragnarok He’s still drawing on these lessons from his past and now passing them on to his son which is something that greatly unites the franchise and continues to show how much Santa Monica Studio relied on the Greek games in the series to shape Kratos like a character. If Kratos can change his fate in the past, what can we say that he and Atreus cannot achieve this again in the face of Ragnarok?
For all these reasons I don’t think Kratos will die in it God of War Ragnarok. I think his death tease at the end God of War It was just a red herring intended to mislead the masses more than anything else. However, this new game trailer clearly indicates that the possible death of Kratos will be a huge focal point in the Ragnarok And the story you tell. It remains to be seen if he really does bite the dust, but I find it hard to see this end of his arc – especially since God of War is now probably the biggest first-party franchise that has a PlayStation at its disposal.
No matter what happens in God of War RagnarokWe won’t have to wait any longer to find out. The game is slated to release in just under two months on November 9 and will be available on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
