Kadokawa chief arrested for alleged bribery attempt

According to a new report from Japan, the authorities have arrested Kadokawa’s president, Tsuguhiko Kadokawa. The Tokyo District Prosecutor’s Office sent authorities to impound executive authority over bribery allegations. Specifically, the charges against the chairman relate to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics in which Kadokawa allegedly paid compensation to a member of the committee.

The report states that the chairman paid a consulting agency nearly $500,000, and the organization was run by Haruyuki Takahashi. This former Olympic CEO was arrested last month for bribery. It is suspected that Takahashi accepted bribes from companies that wanted to secure her role as sponsor of the event.

In Japan, new reports indicate that Takahashi used his network of contacts to secure sponsorship awards to numerous clients. If the claim is true, Takahashi accepted a bribe from Kadokawa to achieve this goal. The scandal also left others in the way of the police as a former Kadokawa employee named Toshiyuki Yoshihara was arrested in connection with the case. The same was done with Kyoji Maniwa, a former studio official. At this time, there is no word on how these three executives are asked to be arrested, but we do know something.

After all, Kadokawa’s chairman told reporters in Japan that the money sent to Takahashi was a “consulting fee” and nothing more. The president appears to be maintaining his innocence in this case. So for now, we’ll have to wait and see what the legal investigation reveals going forward.
