Elvis Presley outraged and berated his critics for religion – ‘I owe him everything’ | music | entertainment

Elvis Presley was very open with his fans when he was still a young and relatively unknown singer. At just 21 years old, the born and bred Mississippi star has responded to countless messages in fan magazine Elvis Answers Back. During one of the articles, he talked about religion, and how the press “should not” talk about his private life.

Elvis called the feature “My True Religion”. The clip began with an article that commented on his religious views.

The article read: “Presley started singing in the church choir, but fame made him forget all about religion.”

The young singer Blue Suede Shoes mocked the idea. “I immediately sat down and cut that out of paper and put it in an envelope and sent it home for my mom to put it in my scrapbook,” he recalls. “I was expecting they would start saying things like that. I’m not religious. I mean. But it was the first time I saw her anywhere.” (sic)

He went on to say that it was not “right” for people to say “like this” things about him.

Then Elvis opened up about the truth about how religious he really was. He revealed that he was brought up on Christianity by his parents.

He said, “No, I don’t go to church regularly anymore, if that’s what they mean by being religious. Being on the road all the time, traveling every minute not working, I can’t be sure when I’ll have a free Sunday for myself. I wish I could.” , just as I wish to be with my folks a lot, but I can’t. So if they mean going to church regularly makes you religious, I guess I don’t get along with what they want.”

Despite the setback of being on tour and not being able to get to church often, Elvis has opened up about his beliefs. He said: I want you to know this. I believe in God, I believe in Him with all my heart.

“All good things come from God,” Elvis added. He continued, “This includes all the good things that have come to me and my family. And the way I feel about it, being religious means that you love God and are truly thankful for all that He has given, and want to work for Him.”

The Jailhouse rock singer said he felt “deep in his heart” that everything he did was for God. He added that he “owes everything” to God.

Although Elvis was young when he wrote this article, he has maintained his beliefs into adulthood. In 1976, he is said to have met television evangelist Rex Humbard to discuss the possibility of the second coming of Jesus Christ.

“It really shocked me that Elvis knew all those scriptures from the Old and New Testaments about the return of the Lord,” Rex said of the meeting.

Rex noted that when Elvis played guitar, he would “go back to his childhood” when he attended church and sang to congregants.

“I could see it was going back in time,” he added. “That spirituality, that feeling that she had years and years ago was implanted in his heart.”

Elvis died on August 16, 1977. Naturally, his funeral contained many notes of religious ceremonies, including gospel singers and prayers throughout the service.

Years later, his ex-wife Priscilla Presley spoke about how his religion was a major point in his life.

Priscilla said Elvis “always had a Bible with him.” She added that he became more and more full of faith as the years went by.

He even turned to other spiritual books in the last years of his life when he was looking for answers. She said: “Now, in the face of ever-increasing desperation, he began to look for other philosophical books for answers and guidance. He read the works of Khalil Gibran. One of the books, in particular, was inspired by the Prophet.” [with] These books he distributed to friends, fellow actors and fans. They appealed to his religious nature and loved to unite people “with the spirit of one latent force – Almighty God.”
