Pirates of the Caribbean: Bad news for Johnny Depp fans after Disney ads | movies | entertainment

Johnny Depp starred in Pirates of the Caribbean in 2017’s Dead Men Tell No Tales. This movie was released just one year before Depp’s ex-wife, Amber Heard, released an op-ed with The Washington Post accusing him of domestic violence. Since then, the ex-couple has been in court for weeks at a time due to a defamation and defamation lawsuit. Depp eventually won the legal battle, but Disney dropped him from the Pirates of the Caribbean series long before the results were announced.

Unfortunately, recent presentations from Disney seem to confirm that he won’t be back anytime soon.

Last weekend, Disney held its annual D23 event in the USA. At the main event, several prominent personalities from the company announced new film projects and provided updates on previously confirmed films.

While representatives from Marvel and Disney Plus attended the stage in full force, fans of the Pirates series were left cold. Many loyal fans of the series were hoping for some kind of update about the billion dollar franchise and its next installment.

Instead, Disney didn’t mention it. They filled their time with news of upcoming Avengers movies and new additions to the Star Wars universe.

The fans were not happy. One wrote on Twitter: “For the third time in a row #D23Expo, we’re left without news of Pirates. It’s no surprise that the 7 projects shown today are already in production while Project 2 Pirates don’t even have directors, which is weird. #PiratesoftheCar Caribbean #JohnnyDepp .” (sic)

The last time Disney talked about Pirates of the Caribbean officially was just a few weeks ago. Series boss Jerry Bruckheimer mentioned the screenplay for the as-yet-untitled Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

I’m so excited, Bruckheimer said to the comic book. We are only working on the script. One of the original writers, Ted Elliot, helps write it. He has great leadership in characters.”

Fans will remember that Elliot was part of the writing team that brought the first Pirates movie – The Curse of the Black Pearl – to life. This bodes well for Depp’s comeback, but the actor himself previously claimed he “didn’t want” to come back.

During the defamation case, Depp discussed being dropped as Jack Sparrow by Disney. His termination came immediately after Heard’s opinion piece was released, and although the company did not cite the featured article as a reason for his dismissal, Depp believed the two events were related.

Apparently Depp was hurt by being dropped by Disney, and admitted he “wouldn’t” be returning to the series. He added that he would not return even if he was offered “$300 million and one million alpacas”.

The actor has a lot of support for a comeback, however. Not only are Elliott and Bruckheimer starring in the upcoming sixth film, but fans are loudly calling for Disney to bring him back in.

The fan petition titled “We Want Johnny Depp Back as Captain Jack Sparrow” currently has an astonishing 877,605 signatures from enthusiastic viewers.

Despite this, production on the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean movie may have already moved on without Depp. And there are going to be some big changes in how the story is built, through its sounds.

In 2020, rumors swirled that Harley Quinn and Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie will be taking over the Pirates series. She later confirmed the allegations in an interview.

Robbie explained that the new film was penned by Birds of Prey writer Christina Hudson. She added that it would contain a lot of “girl power”.

Ruby added, “It’s too early to talk about it. I love it [Hodson], obviously… I’m not a producer at Pirates, so I’m going to sit and kind of wait for the process. We are really excited to be able to add a very basic feminine element to this world. “

Bruckheimer later confirmed the same news. He said, “Yes. We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We’re developing two hacker scripts – one with her and one without him.”

While Bruckheimer’s comments left some hope for Depp’s second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, he later rescinded those wishes as well.

When asked if Depp has ever been in Pirates, Bruckheimer said, “Not at this point. The future hasn’t been decided yet.”

At the moment, there is no official or expected release date for Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

Until then, you can watch previous Pirates of the Caribbean movies on Disney Plus now.
