Live remakes of Disney movies are mostly about telling the same story the original did, simply in a new form. However, that doesn’t mean the new releases don’t try to add things to make the stories a little different. Plot details are modified here and there, and in the case of those adapted as musicals, at least one new song is added to the story.
While many of the songs in Disney’s original animated films are among the most popular movie tracks ever (and more than a few They won Oscars), the new songs added to the new releases are, uniformly, not that great. Most of them are just bad, and the rest, you know…good. Let’s take a look at all the original songs from the live Disney movie remake, from the bad to the songs that are somewhere in the middle. For the record, we only cover the original songs that appeared in the correct movie, not songs that were used on the credits.
11. When he was here with me
Disney originals Pinocchio It’s not really a musical in the traditional sense, it’s simply a movie with the occasional song sung by one of the characters. The live action remake isn’t really music either, but it does have a lot of songs in it. Four songs in this list are from this brand new version.
The first song in the new Pinocchio He is “sung” by Tom Hanks. “When He Was Here With Me” was actually more of a spoken word poem in music, which is why it should be placed at the bottom of the list. It’s a good sequence and serves as nice music, but one gets the feeling that a song like this didn’t exist in Hanks’ range so what we get isn’t a song.
10. Pinocchio, Pinocchio
I don’t want to pick Tom Hanks, I don’t really want to, but his second song is only marginally better than his first. He actually sings this one, which is the main reason he’s a little higher on the list. “Pinocchio, Pinocchio,” sung after Geppetto finds out his doll is now alive, is mostly just silly fun, which is fine, but it’s just an unnecessary song.
It doesn’t add anything to the story and there’s no character development, so it’s just an excuse to show off your Pinocchio CGI dance. The song is also barely more than a minute long, likely due to the fact that, as the song itself shows, finding things that rhyme with Pinocchio is difficult.
9. The song
“Aria” isn’t a song either, but if we’re complete here, it should be included. It’s just a minute of Audra MacDonald singing, but even a minute of Audra MacDonald singing is worth listening to. She doesn’t sing enough Beauty and the beastso even getting this is appreciated.
But if you take out the song and play the music in the background of the same scene, nothing will change. This seems like it was added just because it could be, not because it should be.
8. Forever
One of the things that live-action remakes of Disney movies did with their original songs was use them to give a musical sound to those who didn’t have a voice in the original movie. The monster doesn’t have a single originally Beauty and the beastso the remake fixes that by giving him a song to sing as he watches Belle come home, knowing he may never see her again.
Giving a song to a monster is fine, and having it is perfect, but the “always” song doesn’t work as well as it’s supposed to. The monster is supposed to be in pain, but he sings a song that, while not without emotion, does not reflect that feeling. The beast sings with great power, not sadly. In the animated movie, Beast simply roars in agony, and this expresses his emotional state better than this song.
7. What a shame
Nearly all of the original songs in the Disney remake are just add-ons, that is, brand-new songs embedded in places where a song hasn’t been before. “What a shame” from The lady and the tramp Uncommon in that it is a new song that actually replaces a song from the original Disney movie. The song “We Are Siamese” sung by a pair of mischievous Siamese cats…don’t miss it.
It was undoubtedly the right call to replace that song with a new translation. The pair of cats she sings is of a completely different breed, and the song is a rhythm number unlike its predecessor. It has a beautiful rhythm, but in the end it is unforgettable.
6 I’ll always dance
Another song from PinocchioOne of her best songs is “I Will Always Dance”. It’s unique in that not only did it appear in the original movie, it was sung by a character who wasn’t present in this version. the new Pinocchio It introduces a character named Fabiana, a disabled puppeteer in the Stromboli show played by Kian Lamaya.
The character, though welcome, doesn’t ultimately add much to the movie as a whole. And while the song has potential, it’s cut into the movie. A longer version isn’t even available on the soundtrack, which ultimately makes it unsatisfactory.
5. Days in the sun
Good Days In The Sun. It’s a very small tone and at least adds something to the movie it’s in. The song sees all the cursed household items in the monster’s castle sing about when they were human, and how long they’d be free again.
The problem is that writing an original song on this very topic wasn’t necessary because the song “Human Again” exists and can be used to achieve the same thing. “Days in the Sun” isn’t the best song.
4. Speech
Likes Beauty and the beast Before that, the Aladdin Remake realized that Jasmine never got her own song and decided that this was an issue that needed fixing. The result was “silent”. Naomi Scott definitely sings the song hard, and it’s nice that Jasmine finally has her own song.
The issue here is that the song in the movie is split in half, with Jasmine singing part of the song earlier in the movie, and finishing it later. This partially spoils the feel of “Speechless” as an anthem because it has to build up its energy twice. Also, the second half of the song takes place in a frozen moment in time, which means no one hears her sing it, so she’s still speechless.
3. The Coachman To Pleasure Island
because of PinocchioAs previously mentioned, it’s not really a musical, it doesn’t have a “sinister song” the way most Disney animated movies do. So, if it makes sense to add love interest songs to the new releases, then it makes sense to add evil songs as well. Luke Evans plays Coachman in the remake and has his own song where he’s basically bullying Pinocchio to go to Pleasure Island.
Like all files Pinocchio New Songs in a Remake This song is pretty short and incomplete, but it makes sense to give Coachman a song considering his expanded role in the remake. Evans does everything he has and sells as hard as he can, and that at least deserves credit. It’s not the best Disney villain, but considering many recent Disney animated films haven’t even had proper villains at all, it’s the latest in a long time.
2. How a moment lasts forever
The first example of “How a Moment Lasts Forever” is basically the same concept as the bottom song on this list. Kevin Klein sings a sad song about lost love while building something on the workbench. What makes this song so much better is that Kevin Klein actually sings it, okay, so we got a moment to understand Bill’s dad that we never saw in the animated movie. It is actually very beautiful.
The song returns briefly later in the film in which Belle sings as she learns more about her parents’ history. She’s still pretty, but that entire part of the movie doesn’t really do anything.
1. Soul
Maybe it’s a simple throw in to make the first song on this list a Beyoncé thing, but there’s a reason it’s Beyoncé. The “soul” of the king lion The remake, which seems like the only change of any kind, bother adding it at all, is a great song. It is by far the best song on this list as a standalone piece of music.
But even with that being said, it has issues of its own. While the king lion It’s a musical where the characters sing every other song, “Soul” wasn’t sung by Nala, the character voiced by Beyoncé, it’s just a Beyoncé song played over footage of Simba running home. It makes the song seem out of place and strips it of a lot of emotion that you might have felt otherwise, so even the best song on this list isn’t perfect.
Next year we will have a new live action version the little MermaidAnd we already know that the movie will include brand new songs, and possibly many new songs Pinocchio. This includes at least one by Prince Eric, which indicates that Disney will follow the same formula for the original songs that existed in previous versions. The movie will likely bring in $1 billion, but whether the new songs are really good will be a different question entirely.
