Tom’s Guide award-winning Google Nest WiFi seems to have got a Pro version, and it’s expected to roll out very soon.
While Google has not announced new devices, B&H (Opens in a new tab) They jumped the gun and listed several variants of a product called “Google Nest Wifi Pro 6E Router” on their website.
As the name suggests, the main difference is the introduction of the latest WiFi 6E standard, which means speeds of up to 9.6Gbps in ideal conditions. But the real advantage is the speed is lower than the extra bandwidth provided, which means less interference between devices. This certainly pays off for Google’s ever-expanding smarthome plans, with Nest-branded doorbells, thermostats, smoke alarms, smart speakers, smart screens and security cameras all battling over the same bandwidth.
No photos were provided, but it would be surprising if it’s very different from the “big plastic marshmallow” described by Brian Nadel in the original Nest WiFi review.
The said review was quite glowing, as Google presented the best mesh WiFi router. “Google’s Nest WiFi range of mesh makes the advantage of being small, while still providing enough mesh performance for the typical home and an interactive accessory speaker,” Nadell wrote. “Easy to set up and use, it’s the best Wi-Fi system we’ve seen.”
Obviously, the new version will be available in four different colors — Snow, Linen, Fog, or Lemongrass — and the single version will set you back $199, with dual and triple packages priced at $299 and $399, respectively. There are even three packs of multiple colors if you want to mix and match.
While the assembly makes it cheaper, it is worth noting that this price is still higher than previous generations. The original Nest WiFi router cost $169 in 2019, before dropping to $99 for the relaunched 2020 version. We’ll have to test it ourselves before we can decide if it’s worth the extra bucks (assuming that’s not an incorrect placeholder price, of course).
The release date is not listed, but given calling (Opens in a new tab) Google’s October 6 event specifically mentions “Additions to the Nest Smart Home Wallet” Along with the well-known Pixel 7 and Pixel Watch, we imagine we won’t have to wait long. Especially since the invitation also said that “all devices will be shoppable on the same day”…
