While watching Andor, one of my first reactions was “Who is this red robot that I should protect from any harm?” And once you learned that this robot is called B2EMO? I fell in love with this brave red robot and its funny name.
Yes, for the first time, we have a robot that is very popular And the It was apparently comically named. It appears that the two may be connected. This all makes B2EMO one of the best parts of the show, as I had to highlight the bot in my Andor review.
From the first moments of B2EMO in Andor, you’ll likely also feel attached to her (let’s promise to protect her from Andor Syril Karn). And that’s before he even speaks, providing dialogue of a caliber found with most other characters in Star Wars shows. Heck, I personally prefer talking to B2EMO rather than C3PO. And while I think I would trust the R2-D2 more when it comes to data protection, I still prefer B2EMO to patrol my home.
The actors love B2EMO too, said Diego Luna EW (Opens in a new tab) That “B2 is a great friend. He’s such a perfect robot. I have to say, it’s a great design, first of all. The team behind it is amazing. It’s so expressive. With so little, it gives you so much.”
So, let’s get into everything awesome about B2EMO. Of course, that means we’ll be going through some spoilers from Andor, so Beware of spoilers for Andor Episodes 1-3 below!
Why B2EMO is the best robot of all time
As clever and cool (respectively) as K2SO (voiced by Alan Tudyk) and BB-8 (Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz) charmed us, and as much as C3PO and R2-D2 were classic robots, B2EMO stands out because it gets it all Right about why we love robots. For starters, its structure is an instant classic. The B2EMO’s robust size and vertical adjustment design make it feel like a few dog breeds (Shar Peis comes to mind). There may be tactical and engineering reasons behind its ability to grow and contract, but it seems more vital to it.
And in his first appearance, when he shocks a dog for peeing on him, you can actually get to B2EMO, because it sticks to itself. On top of that, the orange/reddish metallic makes it feel unique while matching the brick red in Ferrix. Dog contact is intentional, as model Tony Gilroy said EW (Opens in a new tab) That when asked about B2EMO he asked for “a salvage droid” and “a family dog.”
But it’s B2EMO’s personality that makes her so memorable. When “Bee” (as some of the characters call her) first speaks to Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), we hear her rant about the lack of answers. B2EMO pleads “If it doesn’t matter, why don’t you tell me?” This, along with the stutter, makes B2EMO one of Andor’s best characters, at least per word.
Another great B2EMO direct trait is its connection to telling the truth. As Cassian teaches us, it takes B2EMO to lie. And after one of B2EMO’s responses, we realized he’s smart and smart enough to know Andor tells him to lie twice. Through these moments, you understand B2EMO greatly, and their dialogue delivery is so warm and loving (sorry, Threepio, but thankful).
B2EMO is also a family robot
As much as B2EMO can be considered another working class member of the show, B2EMO is definitely the good dog of the Andor family. Not only does Cassian pull a stray piece of coin from him in the first episode, as you clean up debris from your pet, his relationship with Cassian’s adoptive mother Maarva will make you feel even more.
Andor Flashback doesn’t show that B2EMO is (or rather was) a constant in Maarva’s life, but the way B2EMO essentially takes Maarva’s side in Episode 2 – reading an item related to Cassian behavior – is amazing. B2EMO is there with her at night, and she keeps it.
Later, when Cassian is looking to leave for his own safety, B2EMO argues with him to stay, I swear I could practically feel a pet in the house begging (nonverbally) for his owner not to go out to work in the process.
Oh, and I can’t get over B2EMO’s lack of control which makes it even more adorable and fragile. When Cassian wirelessly sends the bot, and it simply works – when it isn’t, and everyone else is at risk – he himself wants B2EMO protection.
Voice actor Andor B2EMO is a household name
According to the credits, B2EMO is voiced by Dave Chapman – who has some history in the Star Wars universe. Chapman is credited with being a puppeteer in one of everyone’s former favorite robots, the rolling dynamo known as the BB-8.
This is an important step for Chapman, going from controlling BB-8 to being the voice of B2EMO stealing the scene. And at first, I thought B2EMO had been voiced by someone else entirely. Specifically, Alan Tudyk, the voice of Cassian Andor’s Rogue One robot, K2SO.
B2EMO games are out there
But frustratingly, they actually cost an arm and a leg. For example, a bit lowercase (Galaxy Characters (Opens in a new tab) Recorded at 3.75 inches) Disney’s Star Wars Droid Factory B2EMO character is currently $24.99 on eBay (Opens in a new tab) And the $54.99 at ToyWiz (Opens in a new tab) High price margins above $12.99 MSRP.
Outlook: I need more B2EMO
While I hope B2EMO won’t overexpose or trade to death, I do expect that to happen. This is how merchandise and games work. However, I can’t wait for B2EMO shirts (one would probably say “these are two lies”). B2EMO Talking Games.
Heck, I bet B2EMO Funko Pops would be awesome too. So, Disney, don’t skimp on the B2EMO stuff. And it’s even better if B2EMO has a lot of scenes in Andor episodes that haven’t been shown to the press. This would “bee” wrong.
