Shadow and Bone Season 2 event! Netflix has confirmed the return of the supernatural adventure drama. However, the latest news reveals that they have found their Wylan!
A tweet from the show director has given us hope that this next set of episodes won’t take long – so they reach our screens faster. Having said that, we wouldn’t be shocked to find out that new audiences are joining in on the fun of pandering to Ben Barnes’ racy performance as The Darkling (yes, it sounds wrong, but that’s half the fun).
So, Small Science fans and those new to the Grishaverse, we’re breaking down everything to know about the (potentially) Shadow and Bone season 2. So, not just when we learn more, but when we’re expecting the next set of episodes and who to expect this time around (and the new characters that could be… Appear). Plus, since this is an adaptation, we have a lot of ideas about where Alina will go next.
If you’ve just come across Shadow and Bone without reading the source material, the series is an adaptation of the Leigh Bardugo Grishaverse novels. And since there are 10 books in total, we have plenty of reason to believe Season 2 of Shadow and Bone will happen.
A sneak peek at Shadow and Bone for season 2
Netflix gave us the least amount of peeks at Shadow and Bone Season 2 in Tudum 2022. It’s time for fans to play a freeze frame game, we say.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 Release Date Rumors
Netflix has not yet set a Shadow and Bone release date for season two.
The series officially renewed the series on June 7, 2021. In a statement, showrunner Eric Heisserer said, “I am honored and delighted to be returning to the Grishaverse and continuing the stories of these beloved characters, particularly Milo.”
Author Leigh Bardugo added: “I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly ten years, so I’m thrilled we’re keeping this adventure going.”
We expect Shadow and Bone Season 2 to appear in a couple of years or more — or possibly much sooner. Heisserer revealed that writing for Shadow and Bone season 2 ended in April. Since the scripts are finished, production can start at any time.
However, the first season was a major effort that was filmed in and around Budapest, Hungary. Of course, the pandemic has now complicated film and television production. Other supernatural dramas on Netflix, such as The Witcher and Umbrella Academy, have had gaps of a year and a half between seasons.
With all that in mind, the Shadow and Bone Season 2 release date likely won’t be until late 2022 or even early 2023.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 Renewal News
News of Shadow and Bone Season 2’s renewal broke at Netflix Geeked Week, as the actors themselves announced the new season. This came on the heels of the March 2021 report from What’s on Netflix (Opens in a new tab) Who claimed that the second season of Shadow and Bone has already been internally approved at Netflix, but that player has yet to announce it.
The renewal is not surprising, given that the show has spent a long time in the Netflix Top 10 lists in the US and UK. And since Season 4 of Stranger Things looks like one of the series’ last installments, you know that Netflix is looking to create a new batch of winners to keep people engaged.
Shadow and Bone Season 2 cast
All key cast members of Shadow and Bone are expected to be back for more. It begins, of course, with Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, which the series is mainly about.
Archie Reno is set to return as Mal Uretsov. Showrunner Eric Heiser said TVLine (Opens in a new tab) That there will be “a lot of kissing” for Alina and Money in Shadow and Bone Season 2. The Director (Opens in a new tab) It also mentioned that Jack Wolfe (The Witcher) is joining Shadow and Bone as Wylan Hendriks aka Wylan Van Eck.
Other new cast members include Patrick Gibson (OA) as Nikolai Lantsov, Anna Leung Brophy (Traces and Ragdoll) as Tamar Kir-Bataar, and Lewis Tan (Mortal Kombat, Wu Assassins) as Tolya Yul-Bataar.
Ben Barnes, as General Kerrigan, is also expected to be the second season of Shadow and Bone, having managed to break out of Shadow Fold at the end. That episode gave fans a better glimpse into Kirigan’s Darkling powers, creating Nichevo’ya – a new group of Fold creatures. Making things even more complicated for Shadow and Bone season 2, Nichevo’ya can operate in broad daylight (unlike Volcra).
It’s also possible that Inej, Jesper, and Kaz – characters from The Six of Crows duology – are back a bit more than they were in the books. This means we can expect Freddy Carter (as Kaz), Amita Suman (as Ing) and Kate Young (as Jesper).
Danielle Gilligan (as Nina) and Callahan Skogman (as Mathias) will also return, spending a lot of time with Enig, Jesper, and Kaz. More on that below. Sujaya Dasgupta is also expected to return as Zoya.
Shadow and Bone Season 2: Nikolai Rumors
Next to Wylan (more about him below), the most obvious addition to Shadow and Bone season 2 is Nikolai Lantsov (selected, as noted above). The former King of Ravka seems high on the wish list for many, and Shadow and Bone author Leigh Bardugo is among those who want to add the character.
In an interview with deer (Opens in a new tab)Bardugo stated, “And so Nikolai Lantsov is probably one of my favorite characters to write, which is enough that I gave him his own duet. I think it would be hell to light up, but I would absolutely love to see him come to the screen. He’s a chaotic prince character. Very much, and I think it will be very interesting.”
Shadow and Bones plot season 2
While Shadow and Bone have already shown a penchant for diverting book paths—the book duo merged into Six Ravens very early on—we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Shadow and Bone’s second season.
The core of the story will show Alina and Mal’s separate paths to the Dregs, as they work to keep the former out of Kirigan’s hands. Now that Kerrigan is having his day at Nichevo’ya, though, it may not be all that easy.
Ben Barnes said collider (Opens in a new tab) He thinks Shadow and Bone Season 2 “will deviate from the books’ path…I think the character becomes more in Alina’s mind of what’s dark and a bit symbolic and I wanted to keep him human.” Of course, he’s an actor on The Heisserer Show, and he admitted that’s how he wants the series to continue. Either way, Shadow and Bone Season 2 will likely explore what Kerrigan would be like on his own.
We’ll also meet Wylan Van Eck, who joins Dregs in the book. Hesser said collider (Opens in a new tab) That there would be “100 percent more Wylan”, practically guaranteeing this.
Nikolai Lantsov aka Sturnhound, who commands a fleet of pirates, is also a huge favorite to add in Shadow and Bone Season 2. Nikolai plays a major role in the books, as an ally of Alina and Mal, so it’s practically acknowledged.
Shadow and Bone Season Two: Interview with Leigh Bardugo
talk with collider (Opens in a new tab)Bardugo showed how excited she was for Shadow and Bone Season 2 without saying “Shadow and Bone Season 2.”
Her list of characters isn’t long: “For me, the important thing is, I want to see Sturmhond, the soldier. I want to see Wylan, who’s the only professional we didn’t get to see in season 1. I’d love to see Toulia and Tamar. The problem is seeing your characters come to life.” by great actors is that it makes you so greedy, and I’d be glad to see who we can find to take on very challenging roles. There’s just so much story.”
Shadow and Bones: How many seasons will it be?
Shadow and Bone Show Runner Eric Heiserer (Opens in a new tab) He previously revealed that he made plans for several seasons. In fact, he said there are “overarching” plans for Shadow and Bone season 2, which have been on his mind for years.
In an interview with collider (Opens in a new tab) “It could be more than three seasons,” he noted, referring to a previous interview when he claimed his plan was for three seasons.
Heisserer credited the author’s potentially long term career. “I’ve just been written a lot of books and there’s a lot of ground for us to cover. I feel like this is going to stay strong and healthy even through seasons four and beyond, who knows? But I get really nervous talking about it. I feel like a baseball player referring to the rafters. And I have no idea.”
What’s next for Netflix? This winter brings You season 3while the canopy Academic Season 3 And the Lucifer Season 6 directly behind him.
