This Week in Texas: Sixth episode focusing on redistricting and newly drawn congressional district!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – This week’s new batch in Texas is looking at redistricting, specifically Houston’s newly drawn congressional district.

Congressional District 38 includes Republican Wesley Hunt and Democrat Duncan Klossman. Tom Abrahams, political correspondent for ABC13, sits down with both candidates to find out what’s important to them as they strive to represent one of two new counties in the ever-growing state of Texas.

“I am running for Congress because I believe that gerrymandering is killing our democracy,” Klossman told ABC13 exclusively.

“And we have legislators in Austin, professional politicians who map out these districts to hand them over to one party or another. In fact, in Texas, only two districts are so competitive that you can really choose between two different viewpoints when you go in November,” Klossman said. that”.

Hunt ran for Congress in 2020 against Lizzie Fletcher, vacant District 7, losing in a tight contest. In 2022, he was the banned candidate.

“This is going to be a very strong Republican territory, and it fits perfectly with who I am,” Hunt said. “Last time we ran, we came. We don’t give up. Get right back on the horse and run again, and I think our hard work over the past four years has really paid off.”

Also, on the show, Baker Institute Policy Fellow Mark Jones explains how the lines differ in Texas in this election cycle.

A panel of political insiders will be present at this episode to present their views on the race.
