piece Now setting the stage for the first major arc of the definitive saga, and with Luffy and the Straw Hats arriving on their first new island as part of this latest journey, the cliffhanger from the new chapter of the series has finally made its full debut! Since fans know well enough about the series by now, original creator Eiichiro Oda is sowing many seeds for the story that sometimes won’t be pushed around long after it’s first planted. One such big mystery seed has always been Dr. Vejapunk.
Vegapunk has been mentioned several times in the series thus far as one of the most influential scientific minds in the series universe, but the clues we’ve given about the famous scientist so far have stumped him for being an old man we had a few glimpses of previously. But the final moments of the series’ new chapter threw all of that out the window with Dr. Vejapunk’s first full introduction to the series. And they look a lot different than what fans might expect.

Chapter 1061 of piece The Luffy and Straw Hats continue the rough first stage of their journey towards the next island, and are attacked by a motorized shark. Luffy, Jimbei and Chopper end up reuniting and saving Worst Generation Jewelry member Bonney in the process, and here she tells them they’ve arrived at a place called Egghead, the island that houses Dr. Vegapunk’s lab. Meanwhile, the rest of the crew almost fall into the sea, but are soon rescued by a giant robotic figure.
Inside the robot is a young-looking woman who proclaims herself a “modest genius scientist” for the government named Doctor Vejapunk. It’s a far cry from the Vegapunk we’ve seen before, and there is probably a reasonable explanation. Given what we’ve learned about the world and their knowledge not just of the human body, but of technology, it’s not hard to imagine that Vegapunk have given themselves a new body to help further their research in some way.
Then again, it could be something else entirely! Either way, Dr. Vejapunk has finally arrived at One Piece, so what do you hope to see from the world now that they’ve finally made their debut?
