The first reactions of a werewolf in the night confirm that Elsa’s bloodstone appears for the first time

Just days away from Elsa Bloodstone officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The social ban on Marvel’s Werewolf by Night was lifted Sunday night, with several critics confirming Laura Donnelly’s portrayal of Bloodstone in the special. Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm the selection, with Donnelly even appearing at D23 Expo earlier this month as a yet-to-be-revealed Marvel character.

Previous speculation has indicated that Donnelly is either playing Bloodstone or Vampire by Night, a vampire character associated with Gael Garcia Bernal’s Jack Russell.

Bloodstone Elsa is one of the most prominent monster hunters in the entire Marvel canon, after her lesser known father, Ulysses. She’s relatively new to the stable, having first appeared in a self-titled mini-series released in 2001. Since then, she’s become closely associated with monsters in Marvel lore, even commanding a legion of monsters at various times.

As many of the first reactions also indicated, the special could also serve as a springboard into a bonafide horror or a monster angle in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel Studios producer Brian Gay has teased the introduction of more monsters in future Marvel projects.

“I think one of the very cool things about the Special is just peeling back the corner of monsters in the MCU, right? So it’s not just monsters that are part of the werewolf at night, but the ones that were hanging on the wall, there’s some of that artwork as well,” the CEO recently told The Direct. What all of this gives him is the idea that for centuries there have been monsters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they’ve been tracked down, hunted down, or kept in a stalemate by these hunters.”
