Jujutsu Kaisen Cliffhanger Coronation of Jujutsu’s successor

Jujutsu Kisen She’s been spending her final chapters focusing on Maki Zenen as she adapts to the true extent of her changing body and strength, but the new chapter in the series seems to have completed that journey as they head off the cliffhanger as the new successor to Toji Fushiguro. Maki and Noritoshi Kamo find themselves in the midst of their first real fight in Culling as the Sakurajima colony explodes with a major new challenge. But despite all the power she seemed to have at her disposal compared to what she had before, she was struggling to comprehend the full extent of what she could do.

Fighting with Naoya Zenin over the course of the final seasons has shown Maki how much she needs to grow in terms of using the full extent of her body, and as the previous chapter had bothered, Maki came to a new understanding of Maki that she can actually do. But with the previous chapter also raising the stakes as Naoya activated his Domain Expansion Technique, Maki was able to push it all out and become just like Toji as Domain Expansions seem to no longer have an effect going forward.

Chapter 198 of Jujutsu Kisen She picks up after activating Naoya to expand his domain, revealing that Maki has managed to escape from him because like Toji, she does not have a cursed energy of her own and is therefore treated as an object. More than that, she actually needs to agree to be within the domain in the first place. It was revealed that Mai had already left her a replica of the tool that Toji had used long ago, and she could sever a soul, but she needed to be able to see beyond her current vision in order to use it properly.

With Maki unlocking that ability to see everything around her in a much deeper way than before, she now has the ability to use a weapon the same way Toji used to use it. Dealing a fatal blow to Naoya, Maki completes her transformation into a new version of Toji with the same wild force he used to use in the past. Now it’s just a matter of watching her tear through the rest of the Culling game.

How do you feel about Maki completing her transformation into the new Toji? What do you think that means for her role as Culling going forward?
