Apex Legends brings a limited-time seasonal return with a twist

Respawn Entertainment brings back one of Apex Legends More innovative limited-time modes with the return of Shadow Royale scheduled for October 4th. This will be the first time this mode has come back in about a year (which makes sense given that it’s finished Apex A Halloween-themed Fight or Fright event), but this time around, there’s a change in command: The mode won’t play on Kings Canyon but on Olympus instead.

This reconstructed version of the sprawling city map will be named “Olympus after dark” just as the dark Kings Canyon variant has been called. For those unfamiliar with Shadow Royale, it is a situation similar to playlists of the commonly infected genre in Call of Duty games. Characters choose their legends as usual, but once killed, they reappear like shadows with special abilities such as faster movement, infinite climbing abilities and walls. These abilities come at the cost of low health and the fact that a melee attack is the only way to deal Shadow damage.

Shadows are responsible for hunting down legends from the remaining teams while reviving their living teammates every time survivors fall. Once all team members are converted to Shadows, the squad is eliminated. Like the traditional battle royale mode, the goal is to be the last team left once all the shadow chaos has subsided. There are a few minor rules that govern the flow of this LTM, but that’s the basic experience.

This comprehensive Fight or Fright event is part of starting October 4th which is also when Shadow Royale returns. The mode will last for a week until Gun Run takes its place. Control will return the following week with the event ending with another round of Shadow Royale from October 25 to November 1. Shadow Royale’s return last year was criticized for not bringing the LTM tournament back into rotation until the event had already started several weeks ago, so it looks like the frustration will be rectified this time around.

Several skins related to the scary theme will be sold out during the event as well, so keep an eye on the store to see if there’s anything that might interest you once the Fight or Fright event begins.
