Elvis: Live Hollywood star who played the king’s mother in front of him shares ‘sweet’ memories | movies | entertainment

It’s been 61 years since Elvis Presley starred in Blue Hawaii, one of his movies after the military. The musical, which featured his hit song Can’t Help Falling in Love, saw King Chadwick Gates, who returns home to Hawaii after serving in the armed forces. Incredibly, Elvis’ mother Sarah Lee Gates played Angela Lansbury, despite being only nine years older than him.

Lansbury is still alive and well at around 97 years old and in a spotted interview she shared her memories of working with Elvis at Blue Hawaii.

In the video below, the Hollywood star, who received her first Academy Award nomination in 1944, said: “Obviously I was terrified of being around, but he was a very nice guy in those days. He was always a great, nice guy, a very caring person. Terrible problems of a very personal nature, but in those days he had just been discharged from the army. ”

Before filming Blue Hawaii in 1961, Elvis was flown to the islands early to make an advantageous show. During the attack on Pearl Harbor 20 years ago, the battleship USS Arizona sank and 1,177 lost their lives.

To this day, the ship is still drenched with the monument atop the summit for which Elvis’ concert helped raise funds. King ticket sales generated $64,000 for the project and the show took place on March 25, 1961.
