Reportedly, GameStop is struggling to meet game pre-orders

GameStop is said to be struggling to meet pre-orders for various new games, including major titles like NBA 2K23. GameStop is America’s largest physical game retailer as it is truly the only major nationwide chain dedicated to gaming. Target, Walmart, and other stores sell games, but they don’t have an extensive library of titles that sometimes spans different generations of consoles like GameStop. For anyone still buying physical games, it’s pretty much your only option unless you can find a local store that can cater to the same needs. However, over the years, GameStop has faced all kinds of hurdles as players switch to downloading games instead of buying discs and the company has seen drastic changes due to a change of leadership.

One of the main problems GameStop is said to be facing right now is the inability to fulfill pre-orders. as such Reported by KotakuHowever, several GameStop employees point out that various system issues result in not enough copies for stores to offer to people who have already paid for the games. A staff member told Kotaku that copies of NBA 2K23 The pre-order rewards did not arrive on time. Smaller niche games had a more difficult time with pre-orders in which copies were largely distributed only to people who pre-ordered and were not necessarily sold directly off the shelf. GameStop also ranks employees based on the number of pre-orders they make, so if people cancel those orders because the game isn’t available on release day, it becomes a problem for everyone.

“Pre-orders have been hell lately,” said an employee. “Multiple NBA 2K copies have been shortened and collectible pre-orders have not arrived on time. We can only refund pre-order cancellations as store credit if more than a month has passed as well, and it doesn’t matter if you paid in cash or not.”

It is unclear whether or not this issue will be resolved. GameStop employees note that the current solution is to simply order a copy of the game to send to the customer’s home, but it’s not likely to be permanent. With games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IIAnd the Gotham KnightsAnd the God of War Ragnarok On the horizon, this could be a huge problem if it isn’t resolved soon.
