Kentucky Fried Chicken casts a shadow on McDonald’s with a new snack alternative

Now that Taco Bell appears to be bringing back nearly every one of its discontinued items in some way, the last “viral” item that has gone out of business remains McDonald’s snack offerings. On Monday, Kentucky Fried Chicken chose to cast shade on the latter, announcing plans to fill the void left by the item in the fast food game.

The chain immediately begins testing three Kentucky Fried Chicken meals at select locations in the Atlanta area. Similar to McDonald’s SnackWrap in which chicken serves as the primary ingredient, the Kentucky Fried Chicken version will come in three options with its own glow. There is the basic Classic Chicken Wrap with extra crispy chicken, pickles and mayonnaise.

Then there’s the Mac & Cheese Chicken Wrap with the same tender and macaroni and cheese string all wrapped in a tortilla. Then there’s the Spicy Slaw Chicken Wrap with extra crispy chicken, a spicy salad and pickles.

“With our new wraps, our Atlanta fans are bound to experience a boost of good flavor with every bite, whether it’s the crispy Tenderness Extra Crispy, the bold heat of hot sauce or the rich Mac and Cheese,” said Kentucky Chef Chris Scott at Statement: “We’re excited to hear feedback on these new flavor combinations from our Atlanta customers!”

The items are essentially a modified version of KFC Twister Wraps that were discontinued in 2014. It’s unclear if KFC plans to expand outside the Atlanta market, or exactly how long the new wraps will be available in the city.

“KFC fans have made it clear, loud and clear, that they miss our fried chicken rolls,” the chain added. “There have been over 42,500 mentions on Twitter over the past two years about fans craving wraps, making them a highly anticipated item on the snack menu and KFC fans alike.”
