Rick and Morty see Rick trying to save Jerry from incest in the latest episode of Season 6

Rick and Morty He’s been in the midst of a very surprising season so far, and the latest episode of Season 6 has taken that to the next level with Rick and Jerry’s latest team up! As Rick’s dynamic changes with the rest of the Smith family this season now that he’s forced to spend time with them without a working gate pistol, one notable change in the relationship has been how he sees Jerry. Not only has he apparently brought down Jerry’s public hostility, but Jerry himself seems to stand out from the rest of his family for the kinds of things he made fun of before.

For this reason, Season 5’s “Final DeSmithation” was such an interesting opportunity that the episode’s promotional material had bothered that we’d be watching Season 6 take on the standard Rick and Jerry team adventure. With Rick’s new look at Jerry, and Jerry’s self-realization, this led to a dynamic that was just right for exploration in some fun new ways. Here’s a breakdown of everything important that happened during the fifth episode of season six of Rick and Morty, “Final DeSmithation”:

  • The family eats at the Panda Express when Rick shows up late, but Jerry is excited that the family is going to the zoo the next day. Having fortune cookies for the table, Summer, Beth and Morty all get the same with a blank vulgarity while Jerry gets a fortune saying “You’re going to have sex with your mom.” After the credits, Jerry is worried about fortune because he wants to throw a fortune cookie. The next day, Jerry wants to find out with the rest of the family and they can’t help but make fun of him.
  • Jerry takes it seriously makes it funnier for the rest of them, and Rick can’t use science to help him because it would make it more likely as a result. While Rick sees Summer and Morty making fun of Jerry over his mother’s concerns, he seems to want to help. Jerry wears Morty’s clothes because Beth is Morty’s mother, and Beth, Summer, and Morty go to the zoo instead. But Rick ends up helping Jerry because he thinks Jerry should be allowed to take something seriously.
  • Rick has a hard time disproving his fortune at first, so he goes on a low rent test where Jerry reveals which two chests (one of which bears his mother’s name) will have sex with him. Struggling to do so, he picks the box containing his mother’s name each time. The whole time, Rick is still trying to figure out why there is such a high probability of Jerry having sex with his mother. Reading her texts, Jerry is concerned about the fact that his mother wants to visit her. Sensing something, Rick returns to the Panda Express with Jerry and reveals that they want his attention.
  • Rick then continues to kill everyone inside the Panda Express as a massive laser fight unfolds, and it turns out they were in the middle of a drug loop. Instead, they tell him where to find fortune cookies, a company called the “Fortune 500” full of tech and flagship cameras that even Rick is surprised. Then the two (with animated Sailor Moon, appropriately) dress up as employees and try to sneak through the Fortune 500 headquarters to find out why they want Jerry to sleep with his mother.
  • Then it was revealed that business tycoons like Jeff Bezos (and Billy Zane, hilariously) are attending a meeting with another mogul trying to help them. Then it was revealed that the employees of the company are getting fully realized fortunes (both good and bad). Then, inspired by Rick to take the power of these riches for himself, he begins to unleash his technique to take them all in a head-to-head confrontation. Discovering that one of them has an unresolved fortune, they now vow to bring his mother to Jerry and end her.
  • Until Jerry’s fortune is realized he is basically invincible because his fate needs to be settled, thus Rick wants to keep using him as they find out the origin of all this. The two then discover that the Fortune 500 is keeping a giant pot-eating space worm, a digestive upset that clears up all the chaos. And so Rick declares that all cookies are basically weird poop, and so Rick discovers that the Fortune 500 is trying to control chaos and the future rather than trying to create (like Rick wants Nintendo to make a VR headset).
  • It was then revealed that the person who made these fortunes had made a bunch of fortunes that Jerry had to get people’s attention about the fortunes, and they would likely end up having sex with their mothers instead. The leader of the Fortune 500 finds the two, and each of the attacking soldiers uses a fortune that gives them superpowers. Rick then loads up a bunch of empty fortunes (which is unpredictable) and shoots them all at the soldiers. Meanwhile, Jerry’s mother is still trying to have sex with her son.
  • It is revealed that the fortune of the Fortune 500 is to make her the greatest businesswoman on earth, and when Rick succeeded her (by hacking Goldman Sachs by giving her all her money, and then giving her back) she was able to die. She eats a bunch of riches to then transform herself into a powerful monster, the ensuing chaos frees a giant space worm and a giant black hole opens up and sucks everything up… leaving Jerry and his mother without pants.
  • Rick tries to quickly make a fortune to save Jerry, and ends up saving him before the black hole closes completely. Jerry is saved by Rick, and thus will hold him for her forever. Then Jerry gives Rick a thank-you note in a cookie and tries to call him a friend, Rick loses his immortality when it becomes clear that his fortune was that he would make a new friend. Fighting again, Rick and Jerry and the two return to their usual dynamics.
  • After the credits, a zoo commercial sees people eating zebra food and when they run out of food, they each turn so wild that they start killing each other. Morty and the others see the ad running, and he’s at a loss as to why they’re trying to sell people on it until he finds out that it’s actually a human zoo.
