New Hulu reinvention of the horror classic ‘Hellraiser’ stars the first ever female Pinhead!

Listen, this is not your parents’ Hellraiser. The reinvention of Clive Parker’s classic 1987 horror film features a woman for the first time as the main antagonist, Pinhead.

And if you’ve never seen any of the previous “Hellraiser” movies, don’t worry, you don’t need to. This is perfect to start or add to your favorite collection.

Hellraiser for Hulu follows a young woman struggling with addiction as she ends up in a mysterious old puzzle box, completely unaware that its purpose is to summon the evil Cenobites. Cenobites are former humans who have turned into monsters that harvest human souls to torture in their sadistic experiences.

Jamie Clayton told On the Red Carpet that she didn’t want to imitate Doug Bradley’s original performance as Pinhead. She tried to make it her own, calling this Cenobites leader “something new, different, sensual and frightening.”

“I think it was a really smart decision to want to pick a woman in this role because it kind of takes the burden off the audience to want or try to compare this performance to Doug’s,” Clayton said. “In ‘Hellbound Heart’, Cenobites are described as being that kind of neutral and less sexual being, and so I think it’s fun, it’s smart, it’s fun.”

According to Clayton, it took anywhere between 4.5 to 6 hours to transform into Pinhead. Then at the end of the day, removing the mask and makeup required another 30-60 minutes.

“I hope people who haven’t seen movies before can really see and enjoy this movie,” Clayton said. “People who have seen it will all enjoy and are very impressed with what we have done.”

The film was directed by David Bruckner, and also stars Odessa Asion, Adam Faison, Drew Starkey, and Brandon Flynn.

Hellraiser’s first movie premieres exclusively at Hulu Friday, October 7.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of Hulu and this ABC station.
