Harris County, Texas (KTRK) – A man accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend, who was later found dead, is expected to appear before a judge after he was found in Mexico and returned to Pasadena.

There was a three-day manhunt to get Danielle Chacon off the streets, but he’s now in the Harris County Jail.

Chacon is expected to appear Friday morning in the Court of Probable Cause, where his bail will be set and where we may learn more details about what led to the alleged crime.

On Monday, court documents reported, witnesses saw Chacon forcing ex-girlfriend Mayra Gutierrez, 38, at gunpoint, into her private sports car outside his Pasadena apartment. They also say that Gutierrez went to the apartment to visit their 5-month-old daughter.

Later that day, a mother of four was found shot dead inside her SUV in southeast Houston.

When an arrest warrant was issued, Chacon headed to Mexico. He was arrested at Laredo’s port of entry after surrendering to federal agents Wednesday night.

Chacon was returned to Pasadena Thursday night and is now in the county jail facing an aggravated kidnapping charge. It is a relief to the Gutierrez family. We spoke to her ex-husband earlier this week.

Jimmy Puente said, “We need justice. We want him to turn himself in. Stop being a coward. Do his part and come. If he has the guts to do it, he should take responsibility.”

Records show Chacon’s criminal history of violence against women in Harris County dates back to 2012. He has been convicted twice in the past of assaulting his common-law ex-wife and once for violating an order of protection.

Chacon also shares a 5-month-old daughter with Gutierrez.

Pasadena police said Gutierrez and Chacon have been in an on-going relationship for two years. Both had been involved in two previous cases of domestic violence with the department.

On September 1, Chacon called Pasadena police to report that Gutierrez was driving a car with their child intoxicated. It was later determined that she wasn’t, according to Pasadena Police Chief Josh Brueger.

During the investigation into this case, Gutierrez made allegations of a firearm attack that occurred several days earlier. The officers searched the apartment but did not find a firearm. Brueger added that Gutierrez did not want to pursue the charges, but that officers contacted the Harris County District Attorney’s office about potential charges, but they were dismissed at the time.

Authorities believe Gutierrez left the apartment she shared with Chacon between the first and second incidents.

On September 14, Gutierrez went to Chacon’s apartment to visit their 5-month-old daughter. She mentioned that Chacon grabbed her by the hair and pulled her across the apartment. She added that he had assaulted her several times in the past.

Several hours after this incident, Gutierrez called Pasadena police. The officers arrived and took all her information and tried to find the suspect, but they were unsuccessful. The officers contacted the attorney general’s office again about the charges, but they were dismissed and referred to domestic violence investigators.

As of now, Chacon is accused of aggravated kidnapping, but he’s the primary person who’s interested in killing her, so we’re keeping an eye on more charges.
