Fallout celebrates its 25th anniversary today

Everyone’s favorite post-apocalyptic role-playing game Fallout is officially 25 years old today. The first entry in the hugely popular series was released on October 10, 1997 and the series is still going strong with its latest release, Fallout 76, which was released on November 14, 2018.

The latest installment in the series, Fallout 76, was the first online game in the series and serves as a precursor to the previous entries. Fans who have not previously checked out Fallout 76 can play for free between October 4 and October 11, and can also purchase the full game at a discount. To celebrate 25 years of Fallout, the special will be on sale until October 12th on the Microsoft Store and PlayStation Store, and until October 18th on Steam.

Fallout Shelter, the series’ mobile title, is also slated to receive a major update later this month. The update will be the first time that new content has been added to the game in over four years. According to Bethesda, the new update will include an all-new mission set that features new enemies, new weapons, the ability to recruit new residents, and more.

Considering that the last major entry in the series was released back in 2015 with Fallout 4, fans are eager to get Fallout 5. Thankfully, Bethesda’s Todd Howard confirmed in an interview with IGN Fallout 5 is going to happen, but it’s probably a bit far away. “Yeah, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our list is full going forward for a while,” Howard said.

With Elder Scrolls 6 still not received yet a confirmed release date, it could be years until we finally get our hands on Fallout 5.
