Over the weekend, the death of Robbie Coltrane, Harry Potter fan, was announced. The Scottish star charmed his childhood all over the world as Hagrid, the half-giant, in the Wizarding World franchise. But long before he worked alongside the likes of Alan Rickman and Daniel Radcliffe, he had been involved in the James Bond franchise.
Coltrane played Valentin Dmitrovich Zhukovsky in two James Bond films: The Eye of GoldenEye (1995) and The World is Not Enough (1999).
His character was a former KGB agent turned Russian mafia boss who worked a lot as a source for 007. In these two thriller films, he worked opposite Pierce Brosnan who played the role of the secret agent at the time.
Upon hearing of Coltrane’s sudden death, Brosnan posted a huge tribute on his Instagram account to honor his friend and colleague.
He posted a picture of Coltrane in the Bond series and wrote: “I am so sorry to hear of the death of my dear friend Robbie Coltrans.” (sic)
Brosnan continued, “We had a lot of good laughs all our days while making James Bond movies.” Goldeneye” and “The World Is Not Enough”… The second image from our first days filmed on “Goldeneye” at Leavesdon Studios. I can’t think of a better actor, man of humanity and sense of humor to partner with on the world stage on this day since Many years. My deepest condolences, prayers, love and respect to the family.” (sic)
The British actor worked with Coltrane on two Bond films, and never crossed paths with him again professionally after that.
He wasn’t the only person from the 007 franchise to speak up and honor the 72-year-old actor.

The 72-year-old was reportedly ill in the two years leading up to his death.
News of his death prompted many of the original Harry Potter actors to tell stories of the kindness he had shown them while filming fantasy films.
Tom Felton, the actor who played Draco Malfoy, recalls: “One of my fondest memories while filming Harry Potter was the night photography of the first movie In the Forbidden Forest. I was 12 years old. [and] He took care of everyone around him. without effort. And make them laugh. effortlessly. (sic)
He added, “He was a big friendly giant on screen but was more than that in real life. I love you my friend – thank you for everything xx”
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling also spoke about the actor.
She posted a picture of the two of them together at a dinner, and added the caption, “I’ll never remotely know anyone like Robbie again. He was an amazing talent, he was one of a kind and I was so lucky to know and work with him and laugh my head off with him.”
She added, “I send my love and deepest condolences to his family, especially his children.”
