New D&D Triple-A game in development

A new 3D title for Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) is being developed by Invoke Studios. Leading development for the title is Dominic Guay, a Ubisoft producer of 20 years who previously worked on Splinter Cell before becoming the number one producer on Watch Dogs and its sequel.

Wizards of the Coast, licensee of D&D and Invoke made the announcement. Little is known about what players can expect from the game except that it is being developed on Unreal Engine 5 and is treated as a Triple A version.

Although the game has been announced, a release date has not been announced yet. Currently Guay team has 80 employees, With the studio hoping to raise that number to over 200 by 2025.

In a press release, Guay stated that the D&D brand is a great inspiration, and that the world affords the team tremendous creative freedom. Regarding the Triple A mode of the game, Guay simply said, “We will have the means to achieve our ends.”

Invoke Studios was formerly known as Tuque Studios and is best known for creating Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, a third-person RPG game that was released in 2021. The game is clearly inspired by Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance series. Unfortunately, unlike the name itself, D&D: Dark Alliance received “mixed or average reviews” according to Metacriticincluding a few loyal critics.

There’s no end date in sight for Invoke’s D&D, especially given the level of expansion the studio hopes to undergo in the coming years. The vast world of Dungeons & Dragons gives developers nearly unlimited creative freedom, which, while a blessing, can also be intimidating. It will be interesting to see how you can call the prices up with their first real breakthrough into the world of Triple-A with this new venture.
