PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge controller gets release date, new trailer

PlayStation’s cool new PS5 controller, the DualSense Edge, now has a release date. Sony announced this week that the premium terminal that aims to give users a range of customization options and additional inputs for configuration will be launched on January 26. That announcement coincided with a new trailer showing off some of these features, and Sony said that if you’re planning on getting one, you can start pre-ordering it on October 25 for $199.99.

Revealed back in August, the DualSense Edge is the PlayStation version of the Xbox Elite controllers that’ve been out for a while now as well as other third-party options that offer a bit more than your standard console. It has two back buttons that can be configured for different inputs with two different sets of interchangeable back buttons in the package and different joystick options that can be swapped similarly. However, many controllers will offer four back buttons instead of the ones in Edge, so keep that in mind if you see yourself needing more than that.

It also has a unique interface that allows users to adjust profiles, volume, and other settings with just a few button presses. This particular feature is unique and not easily found anywhere else, but other features like resettable buttons and back button entries are the ones that users expect to see in premium consoles like this now.

Buying a DualSense Edge also means getting a case for it as well, which isn’t a bad deal considering you’ll usually have to buy it separately from many other places. You can charge the controller while it’s in the box via the included USB cable (or any other cable you have around), and you can see everything included in your DualSense Edge purchase below as well as in the trailer above:

DualSense Edge Contents

  • DualSense Edge Wireless Controller
  • Braided USB cable
  • 2 standard caps
  • 2 high dome covers
  • 2 low dome hats
  • 2 buttons back half dome
  • 2 back arm buttons
  • conductor housing
  • carry bag

While $199.99 isn’t cheap by any means, it’s not unusual for controllers to be priced at or around that when they do everything the DualSense Edge does. It will be available for pre-order on October 25, although it is hoped the show will go on so it won’t be sold out immediately to those still on the fence.
