Modernization: Apple may have a foldable iPad by 2024 According to one analyst.
Apple may be working on a rather strange device that could combine a MacBook and an iPad in the form of a foldable device.
This might sound left-handed given that Apple doesn’t make a touchscreen MacBook, but this information comes from popular mentor Mark Gurman, who claimed that Apple is “exploring” the idea.
In his last book employment (Opens in a new tab) In the newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman discussed that such a hybrid device could work similarly to the already existing Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold.
“The company can use a foldable 20-inch screen attached to a physical keyboard or just one side of the screen can act as a virtual keyboard,” Gorman explained.
Gorman appears to have corroborated Ross Young’s earlier allegations about Apple’s alleged work on a “foldable notebook”. Young is a display analyst with a proven track record who recently discussed that Apple could supply this device with a 20-inch screen with UHD/4K (or even higher) resolution.
“We’re now featuring Apple in our roadmap for foldable laptops,” Young said in a recent report highlighting potential foldable and rollable devices in the industry. “We hear there’s interest in the largest volume yet.”
Young also hinted that this product could form an entirely new category, similar to what Apple implemented with the iPad launch. The analyst shared that there is also scope for it to become a dual-use product. He noted that apart from serving as a fully functional laptop with an on-screen keyboard while folded. It can also turn into a screen when opened and can, in theory, be paired with an external keyboard.
And despite Gorman’s claim that “the device has been in development for the past two years”, Young seems to think a launch is unlikely before 2025. In fact, Young claims the device could arrive sometime between 2026 and 2027 as Gurman noted that this The time frame can coincide with the launch window of the long-rumored Apple car and Apple AR glasses.
Given that both Gurman and Young are reliable sources that have already proven accurate in the past, we assume that their claims hold some significance. However, as always, we encourage any speculation to be taken with a pinch of salt until we have official confirmation from Cupertino.
