In the TV special, it is revealed that the Man-Thing is the creature that the assembled group of monster hunters hunt down in hopes of controlling the precious bloodstone. But viewers faced a turn when it was revealed that the creature was actually a friend of Gael García Bernal’s Jack Russell, who had infiltrated the search just to save him. I recently had the opportunity to speak with Heather Quinn, who co-wrote werewolf at night With Peter Cameron, and she couldn’t help but ask what it was like for her when she worked with Ted. She explained that while she enjoyed working with the classic Marvel Comics character, she knew she needed to use it to answer some key questions:
We didn’t know how much we were going to get, sort of, right from the start. But once we knew we could get it and fetch it, we were clearly thrilled. The integration was so much fun [him into the story] is the correct answer. I mean, we liked the idea of telling a story, because I think one of the interesting things we did with introducing monsters and then bringing this corner of [MCU] Like, ‘Okay, yeah. So we’re going to introduce you to monsters, but like, who’s the good and the bad in this room? And how do you know that? And how do you feel about that? And what does that mean?’

Because anytime you introduce something new, there are definitions to play with for the first time. Like, if you introduce a monster, and it’s evil, there’s a little bit of a subconscious takeaway kind of like, “Okay, monsters are evil in this world.” And I think we really wanted to lobby against any kind of … I think we wanted to question that and be like, “Okay, the humans in the room are pretty evil.”
And the hour-long special really does an effective job of identifying who the true “monsters” of the grim tale are. Thanks to the work that’s been done here, it’s quite clear that this universe will display some layered beings that get stuck in the night. I mean seriously, the show ends with Jack and Ted sitting back and having a discussion about what they want to eat. I can’t think of a better way to get these wonderful – and still somewhat mysterious – people more connected to them.
Despite strong premises, werewolf at night It still leaves a number of questions. When will we see Jack and Ted again, and will they still be on the road together? Of course, one also had to think about what awaited Elsa Bloodstone, especially now that she had used the bloodstone. Hopefully these queries will be answered sooner rather than later, but until then, let’s just marvel (no pun intended) at the fact that Heather Quinn and her colleagues. Lay some excellent foundations with Man-Thing and his allies.
