Ultimo Dragon recently spoke with Sports Illustrated About wanting to return to the States and have the result of her settlement with the current AEW star. The heavily decorated Japanese Luchador was in WCW rivalry with Chris Jericho in the late 1990s bringing him a victory in his first match at WCW Monday Nitro, then failing to defeat Lionheart at the WCW World Cruiserweight Championship. Six different events (four of which were televised).
While Dragon’s run with WCW ended in 1998 and his WWE tenure only lasted from 2003-04, he has remained active in the ring ever since. According to Cagematch, he has competed in nearly 2,300 matches in his career and has already wrestled 79 times this year at the age of 55.
Why would the Ultimo Dragon want to challenge Chris Jericho?
“I’m honestly not very familiar with AEW. But if I had the opportunity, I would really like to take part in one of their shows and end my rivalry with Jericho,” The dragon explained.
Jericho is currently serving his eighth World Championship title, having won the Ring of Honor World Championship at the AEW Grand Slam event last month. He’s since started targeting former ROH world champions, having beaten Claudio Castagnoli, Bandido, Brian Danielson and Castle Dalton while nailing Jerry Lynn with a disc plow this week. Chris Jericho discusses AEW’s latest drama backstage
Jericho recently spoke with ComicBook and discussed recent backstage dramas about AEW including the likes of CM Punk, The Elite, Andrade, and Sammy Guevara. He explained, “It’s just that we’re a growing company. You know what I mean? When I worked for WCW, it was 50 years ago. When I worked for WWF, it was 60 years ago. We’ve been around for three years, so there will always be pains.” That’s why someone like me and Brian Danielson and Jon Moxley, we are the leaders of the team. It’s like a soccer team or a soccer team or a hockey team.
“There will always be lows and little points in any company, in any locker room for any kind of sport,” he added. “That’s exactly the case. So you just deal with it. And the funny thing is that everyone has an opinion when they’re online and social media and all that stuff. We know what’s really going on and we know, sure there are things that you have to fix, but the positivity in our company Off the charts and optimism about what we’re going to be in the next few years is also off the charts. So it’s very exciting and the fact that we just had our third anniversary is huge because we never knew. We never knew if we had one. So, there are pains In growth, it’s totally the way you go and that’s okay. That’s what I’m here for as we take care of the issues and focus more on the positives, which is 98% to two.”
