iPad Air 4 crashes to $469 before Black Friday — and it’s even better than the new iPad

One of the biggest questions people might have about the new 2022 iPad (10th generation) is whether it’s worth the $449, a valid question since the 9th generation iPad started at just $329. Well, there’s a better deal on the iPad that suddenly makes your new iPad seem irrelevant.

Now you can capture a file iPad Air 4 for only $469 at Walmart (Opens in a new tab), which is only $20 more than the new iPad. That’s $30 cheaper than Amazon and $130 off the original price, making this a great deal early on Black Friday.

iPad Air 4 was released in 2020, but like tech radar (Opens in a new tab) It indicates that it outperforms the new iPad in several major ways. First, it supports the newer second-generation Apple Pencil, which magnetically taps the iPad’s top edge in landscape mode for easy storage. It is charged while attached.

The new 2022 iPad sticks to the first generation Apple Pencil, which doesn’t plug into anything and is difficult to charge, and requires a USB-C to Lightning adapter.

Another feature of the iPad Air 4 is the optional Magic Keyboard. You can easily rotate the screen back and forth, while the new iPad’s Magic Keyboard Folio features a less versatile stand.

Last but not least, the iPad Air’s display supports the P3’s wide color, is laminated, and has an anti-reflective coating to reduce glare. So you get a better screen, too.

Other than that, the iPad Air 4 is just as powerful as the iPad 2022, as both use the fast A14 Bionic chip. However, the 7MP front camera on the iPad Air is designed for portrait mode and the 12MP selfie camera on the newer iPad is for the landscape side, so the latter is better for video calls.

In our original review of the iPad Air 2020, we called it the best tablet for most people. Arguably, this is still true, especially at such a low price. For more information, check out our Black Friday Deals Report for all early sales.
