Shawn Michaels on launching new WWE NXT brands around the world

WWE’s plans to expand NXT to different countries around the world have encountered quite a few hurdles over the years, but it looks like some new brands for NXT will continue to take off in the future. Triple H gave a presentation at the 2018 WWE Business Partner Summit in which he proposed launching WWE Performance Centers in a variety of countries, effectively giving WWE an opportunity to create new territories in a variety of countries. This preview suggested countries like Brazil, India, China and Japan, although the latter ended up in problems before it got off the ground.

WWE’s attempt to buy out the Pro Wrestling NOAH promotion in 2019 and the closure of WWE Japan LLC in 2021 seem to indicate that the plan is dead in the water. But since Triple H took over as WWE’s director of content, there have been some changes. NXT dropped the “2.0” title it had held for the past year and NXT UK was closed down to be replaced by NXT Europe next year. Shawn Michaels then stated that a few more NXT brands are about to be confirmed.

The one thing that gets everyone excited is that this company never sleeps and we are constantly trying to grow and expand. I have no doubt, I can’t To tell you how I know, but I know someone very interested in NXT and its expansion. I’m sure those things aren’t far off at all.”

Elsewhere on the same call, Michaels talked about plans to tour NXT domestically – “From an NXT standpoint, we’ve been launching live events here in Florida and we’re definitely looking forward to getting out of Orlando in 2023. From an NXT standpoint, going out to Premium Live events. We hope that means going out to live events outside of Florida as well. These are decisions that are coming from people above me. We definitely want to do that, and we’re excited to do that, but we’ll start with Premium Live events and see how it goes first.”
