Stephen Colbert Bans Kanye West From Late Show

Stephen Colbert has a message for Kanye West: The rapper, who now goes by Yi’s side, is not welcome in Late Show, at the Ed Sullivan Theater, and even Times Square. On Thursday, Colbert announced during his opening monologue for The Late Show that West would never be invited to the show. The announcement, even if intended as a moment of relaxation, is just the latest in a growing list of people and companies declaring that they will no longer work with West following his anti-Semitic comments.

“After much thought and soul-searching, Stephen Colbert and I banned Kanye West from entering the Ed Sullivan Theater,” Colbert said. “I must. I must. Row in the sand.”

Colbert also joked that the reason he made the announcement when he did so was West’s uninvited and unannounced presence at Skechers, a visit that came just a day after adidas ended its partnership with the rapper. The Skechers had reportedly escorted West off their property.

“I have no excuses as to why I didn’t do this before, except that he probably never came to the show, we never asked him to be on the show, and I’m not sure he realizes I had one. But I had to do it now because I was afraid he would show up. at any moment because that’s what he did yesterday.”

“Within five years, the idea of Kanye’s surprise visit has gone from fantastic to ‘Sir, you have to leave Skechers,’” Colbert joked. “…it gets worse – unlike Adidas, Kanye has never made a deal with Skechers. Apparently, Kanye is so desperate, he’s driving and searching Google Maps for ‘shoes near me.’

West has come under fire in recent weeks for his anti-Semitic comments which in turn led to several companies severing ties with the rapper. TJX Companies – the parent company of TJ Maxx – Creative Arts Agency, Gap, Balenciaga, Adidas, and others have announced that they will no longer work with or carry West products.
